Help us educate Wisconsin congregants and community members about tobacco, vaping and the role of flavors like menthol.

Sunday, May 17, 2020 is “No Menthol Sunday,” a national observance day led by NAATPN. Each year the Wisconsin African American Tobacco Prevention Network (WAATPN) joins NAATPN in providing faith leaders with the tools to discuss the importance of living a tobacco-free life and helping congregants and the African American community at large to achieve this goal. Each year we encourage faith leaders to talk about the importance of living healthfully—not only for the sake of one’s own sacred physical body, but for the sake of the African American community as a whole. We emphasize the role of menthol in quitting tobacco, but we don’t stop there. We speak loudly against social and economic systems that perpetuate health disparities and keep tobacco use at status quo.

NO MENTHOL SUNDAY RESOURCES

This year's theme AWAKE! We’re encouraging congregants young and old--to stay woke about current issues related to tobacco use and prevention. We must stay up-to-date about policy efforts that can help protect Black health. But most of all, we must remain critically aware of the tobacco industry’s tactic to author misinformation and utilize flavors like menthol to addict our kids to vaping and other tobacco products like cigarillos.

NAATPN has created a guide for making #NMS2020 a powerful way to change health outcomes for African Americans. Find graphics, Powerpoints, videos, audio, sermon topics and great ideas for going digital (or old-school) this year.
